Re-brand and New Identity Design
Previously Prime Minister, John Key, and Minister for Sport and Recreation, Murray McCully announced in June 2010 a major reshaping and expansion of high performance sports in New Zealand. One of the key programmes included in the announcement was the development of a 'National Cycling Centre of Excellence', to build on the success of Bike NZ’s high performance programme. Sport & Recreation NZ (SPARC) announced that it would run a tender process and the Home of Cycling (HoC) Charitable Trust was established and ultimately selected as the preferred successful tenderer - construction of the Home of Cycling Velodrome began.
During this exciting period of time an identity was developed; a striking logo and brand material including building mockups were created to lift it to the next level from existing design materials, to support numerous proposals and bids presented to major and minor sponsors and supporters. Ultimately securing Avanti as the major naming sponsor, the 'Avantidrome' was born. A world class, cutting edge environment in the heart of the Waikato, an Olympic velodrome required a brand and identity it could promote to the world and stand tall within the international arena and that was exactly what was created for them.
